Why We Need Encouragement in Uncertain Times

If I’m being honest, the uncertainties of life have hit me like a ton of bricks here lately. Maybe you’re a mother watching your child struggle, maybe you’re in the throes of watching a loved one battle an illness, maybe you’re trying to conceive, wondering if it will ever happen. Perhaps you’re a woman staring at a dwindling bank account, your own worries whispering doubts in your mind about whether or not you will have what you need. If you’re in the midst of uncertainty, these difficult times can definitely test your spirit. I’ve been there too—those moments when the shadows are vast and the presence of the Almighty feels distant. How easy it is for the heart of man to grow heavy under such weight.

But here’s the beautiful truth: God sees you. He knows the little things that weigh on your heart, and He promises to hold you with His righteous right hand. The word of God is our anchor, offering His promises that shine like a beacon in the darkest night. As we lean into these powerful bible verses, we find perfect love that casts out fear and discover that the character of God is one of a Lord of peace who steadies our souls and quiets the storms.

Powerful Bible Verses for Times of Uncertainty

1. Isaiah 41:10 – Strength in God’s Righteous Right Hand

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (NIV)

This verse feels like a hug from our loving Heavenly Father. In times of fear, when the uncertainties of life threaten to overwhelm and weaken us, God reminds us that He is  present and more than willing to help. As a mother, I’ve clung to this promise when I have felt weariness down to my bones from sleepless nights . During those life circumstances where I feel like I can’t endure anymore pain, He is there strengthening me and walking me through. His righteous right hand lifts us, giving us great strength in the face of uncertainty or those times we feel we might break apart. Speak this over your heart and mind today—let the Holy Spirit fill you with perfect peace.

2. Philippians 4:6-7 – The Peace of God That Transcends Understanding

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (NIV)

This is one of my go-to verses in difficult times. As women, we often carry own worries about everything from finances to family health. But God’s peace isn’t dependent on our own understanding. Often, I have found myself in situations far beyond my control, where all I could do was sit in God’s presence. I have learned, and still need practice, laying my fears at His feet. The peace of God that follows is a gift, guarding the heart of man like a shield. Whether you are facing a scary medical diagnosis, feel like giving up, or are just looking for direction in a muddy situation, leave your worries at God’s feet. He has the master plan. He is sovereign above all situations.

3. Matthew 6:26-27 – Trusting Like the Birds of the Air

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (NIV)

This verse has been a family favorite when I read my little one his story Bible. Sometimes I find myself gleaning peace and feeling God’s presence even as I read a children’s Bible story. He has a way of telling us what we need to hear, doesn’t he? As mothers (or anybody for that matter), we can get so caught up in providing—filling the bank account, planning for our families’ needs (not to mention planning the uncertain future). Jesus’s teachings reminds us to look at the birds of the air and the flowers of the field. God cares for the little things in creation, giving them everything they need. He made us in his own image- how much more He loves us compared to birds and flowers.  He delights in giving us what we need. All we need to do is trust Him to do so. Add this verse to your memory verse cards when you feel worried about not having what you need. God always provides.

4. Psalm 23:4 – Comfort in the Darkest Valley

“Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” (NIV)

There are hardships in life that can only be described as the darkest of valleys- losing a loved one, illness, feeling unsafe or afraid. I have walked my fair share of these, and I’m sure that I will again before my time here is over.

We unfortunately live in a broken world where some of these things are unavoidable. These times may feel like the testing of your faith, but God never leaves you or forsakes you. He loves us and walks beside us in the darkest times and in our times of great joy.  He is our Shepherd, always watching over us.

5. John 16:33 – Overcoming the World

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (NIV)

It is no secret that this world is full of more than enough trouble, but the truth is that we don’t need to fear or lament over this world. God has already won, triumphant over all of the darkness that may surround us. As humans , we want to shield our children and ourselves from times of trouble, but God’s Word assures us that Jesus’ name has already won the victory. This revelation of Jesus Christ fills us with great joy and reminds us of eternal life beyond the uncertainties of life.

Applying God’s Promises in Daily Life

These powerful bible verses aren’t just words on a page—they’re God’s promises to live by and lean into, especially in times of uncertainty. As women and mothers, we can weave them into our daily routines, turning fear, worry or fatigue into opportunities to draw strength from the One who never grows weary. May we trust in Him so that we can continue to strive to continue good works that reflect the kingdom of God.

Struggling to find time to read scripture/ memorize verse?

For busy women and mothers, myself included, juggling countless responsibilities, incorporating memory verses or scripture reading into daily life can feel daunting, but it’s achievable with intentional, small steps. One effective approach is to integrate scripture into existing routines. For instance, placing a notecard with a weekly memory verse on the bathroom mirror allows for quick review while brushing teeth or getting ready. Alternatively, we can listen to audio Bibles or scripture-based podcasts during commutes, meal prep, or while folding laundry.

Breaking down memorization into bite-sized pieces—focusing on one or two verses a week—makes the task manageable. By anchoring scripture to moments already embedded in their day, women can create a sustainable habit without needing large blocks of time.

Another strategy is to involve family or community to make scripture engagement a shared, meaningful practice. Busy moms can recite memory verses with their kids during car rides to school or at bedtime, turning it into a fun, interactive game that reinforces learning for everyone. Partnering with a friend or joining a women’s Bible study group, even virtually, provides accountability and encouragement. Displaying verses in high-traffic areas, like the kitchen fridge or a phone wallpaper, serves as a constant reminder and prompt for reflection. By weaving scripture into family life and leaning on community support, we can nurture our spiritual growth amidst packed schedules, finding moments of peace and strength in God’s Word.

The uncertainties of life may rage, but the help and love of God is ever present. Whether you’re in the darkest valley or enjoying good times, lean on God’s word and Him guide you. Share these powerful bible verses with your friends who are struggling. Read them with your children during times of trouble.
