After what has felt like a very long winter, the first signs of spring are finally emerging! Here in the south, the temperatures are finally getting warmer. Plants are sprouting and blooming. The yards are turning to pretty green grass and the bees are out buzzing around. We even saw our favorite little rabbit in our side yard this past weekend. Spring is the time that nature wakes up and new life feels refreshing.

Spring is finally here and in our house, that means it’s time to bring out our favorite books for this exciting time of year. My little boy loves books so we really wear them out. I thought I would update our spring book collection with a few new books to read alongside our old favorites.  I am a teacher as well, so I added a few spring titles to have on hand that are perfect for preschoolers and young readers. If you are looking for a list of spring books to read with your little one this season, look no further. Here is what I think are the best spring books for toddlers that will help you and your young children celebrate the sweet arrival of spring.

This list of spring books includes stories and picture books perfect for any spring occasion. Here you will find books that celebrate the changing seasons, titles that celebrate Easter, and children’s books that highlight spring animals and critters. All books are linked so that you can easily add them to your Amazon cart or try to grab a secondhand book or two from your local thrift store or antique shop. You’d be surprised how many books I’ve snagged secondhand. Put those winter books away! Spring is here- let’s get to the list of wonderful seasonal books!

Little Blue Truck’s Springtime

Following in the suite of all of the other Little Blue Truck Books, “Little Blue Truck’s Springtime” is a great addition to the collection. Of course Blue and Toad are on an adventure together again, going for a ride to see all of the sweet new life that springtime brings. Explore the names of the baby animals along with repetitive onomatopoeia words to excite your young readers. This Little Blue Truck book is also a lift the flap book for added fun!

God Gave Us Easter

We just adore the “God Gave Us” series. These books really put the focus on what matters around every holiday and occasion and “God Gave Us Easter” is no different! The author makes a special effort to point our little ones back to Christ when society can cloud the true meaning of holidays. “God gave us Easter” is a wonderful story that explains the symbols of Easter such as Easter eggs or the Easter Bunny and points them back to what Jesus did for us on Easter so many years ago.

Digger and the Butterfly

“Digger and the Butterfly” is a wonderful story for any toddler that loves construction vehicles! It follows a curious little Digger along his journey of discovering a caterpillar on a job site. It takes him through the adventure that is metamorphosis and ends with a surprise that demonstrates the magic of spring. “Digger and the Flower” is also a great book to grab in this series!

Bear Finds Eggs

Bear is such a fun character that my little one really enjoys. We have collected most of this series and were so excited to find that there is an Easter book as well. Join Bear as he and his forest friends search for missing baby bird eggs. Bear and all of the different animals reunite them with their mothers and rejoice when the sweet chicks hatch after all of their hard work and searching.

Peek Inside the Garden

This adorable board book is so much fun to read with your little ones as nature wakes up! “Peek Inside The Garden” is a fun lift the flap book that explores all of the little critters that can be found in your own backyard. It is a great way to explore all of the life bustling in your garden and what each insect or critter does. You can take it a step further and search for these spring finds outside with your toddler! It is such a fun and informative book to add to your library with surprise and wonder on every page.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Books by Eric Carle

Of course, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” books get a mention on this list! Teach your little ones about the basics of metamorphosis as you follow this little caterpillar on his journey from egg to butterfly. I love this book so much because it also covers introductory counting skills, days of the week, and different foods! There are so many basic concepts for your toddlers to grasp in just one book! Another fun, springy title in this series is “The Very Hungry Caterpillar Garden Picnic”. It is a great, quick read during this season and is even a scratch and sniff!

Bee My Friend

“Bee My Friend” is such a sweet book that takes the reader from having a fear of bees to learning how wonderful they are! Full of information about what bees do to help us and how we can help them, this sing-song book full of rhyming text is a great addition to your spring library!

The Garden The Curtain and the Cross

The most important concept for little ones to grasp during the spring season is what Jesus did for us. While Jesus’s sacrifice is a huge topic to tackle, “The Garden, The Curtain, and The Cross” does a beautiful job of breaking this down into toddler-sized pieces. It gives little ones historical context of the fall of man, starting with Adam and Eve in the garden. It takes them through the concept that we were separate from God and had to commune with him in the temple. Finally, it finishes with Jesus’s sacrifice and the wonderful news that we can be reunited with our Heavenly Father once more. This makes a wonderful Easter basket item or gift for any precious little girl or little boy!

Fletcher and the Springtime Blossoms

We love Fletcher in our house! In this cute story, the sweet little fox is worried winter is coming back and ruining springtime. Instead, he finds a wonderful surprise with all of his woodland friends. Full of beautiful, colorful illustrations, this book is visually enchanting and a toddler favorite.

A Green, Green Garden Little Critter Books

Perfect for emerging readers, this Little Critter book is full of wonderful sight words and prepositional phrases that your little ones can practice with. We just adore the Little Critter books!

Spring is a beautiful time of year that can be enchanting to little ones as well as adults! From learning about the seasons, garden critters, baby farm animals, and most importantly, Jesus’s gift to us, there is so much to teach our precious children! Picking a few new books is a wonderful way to teach them these things! I hope you and your little ones enjoy these spring titles as much as we do!
