Pretty Personalized Ceramic Birth Flower Necklaces

I’m thrilled to share something that’s been blooming in the studio lately—a beautiful jewelry collaboration that’s all about birth flower charm necklaces, blending the earthy warmth of handmade pottery with delicate, ethereal painting. If you’ve followed along here at The Midnight Mustard Seed, you know how much I love working with pottery clay. There’s something fulfilling about taking a simple lump of earth, shaping it with my hands, and watching it transform into something that can hold meaning for years.

A close-up product photo of a handmade ceramic birth flower necklace from The Midnight Mustard Seed. The pendant is a small, irregularly shaped oval ceramic disc in warm earthy tones—mostly creamy beige with subtle orange-brown speckles and patina-like glazing. It features a delicately hand-carved and painted daisy-like flower with white petals and a yellow center, surrounded by smaller blooms and lush green leaves and stems at the bottom. The design has a vintage, textured, embossed appearance. The pendant hangs from a sturdy gold-colored chain with elongated oval links (figaro-style), attached via a small gold jump ring and bail. The overall style is dainty, bohemian, and personalized, displayed against a plain light background.

Lately, my little studio has been filled with these tiny ceramic charms—each one carefully hand-formed, smoothed, textured just so, and twice fired in the kiln. They’re humble beginnings in my studio. These charms needed something more—life, color, personality. That’s where my sweet friend and local artist Whitney Winkler comes in.

Whitney’s work (you can find her beautiful pieces at whitneywinkler.com) has always felt like a soft exhale—layered, soft, full of gentle florals and dreamy palettes. When we started dreaming up this birth flower charm necklace collaboration, it felt like the most natural thing. I form and fire the ceramic charms by hand, and Whitney brings them to life with her unique painting style. Each flower is delicately etched onto the charm embellished with its own unique burst of color. The collection captures the essence of snowdrops for January, irises for February, daffodils for March, daisies for April, lily of the valley for May, roses for June, water lilies for July, poppies for August, cosmos for October, chrysanthemums for November, and holly for December.

A product showcase image from The Midnight Mustard Seed (in collaboration with Whitney Winkler) displaying a full collection of handmade personalized ceramic birth flower necklaces, one for each month of the year. The pendants are small, irregularly shaped oval or rounded ceramic discs with gold-colored bail loops at the top for hanging on chains (chains not fully shown). Each features hand-painted and detailed floral designs in vibrant, watercolor-like glazes with green stems/leaves and colorful blooms, set against soft, varied background colors for an artisanal, vintage-inspired look.
The layout is arranged in four horizontal rows (with some overlap or spacing issues in the photo):
• Top row (January to April):
January – Snowdrop (green/teal background with white nodding bell-shaped flowers and foliage).
February – Iris (purple-blue irises on a light background).
March – Daffodil (yellow daffodils with green stems).
April – Daisy (classic white/yellow daisy-like flowers in warm tones).
• Second row (May to August):
May – Lily of the Valley (delicate white bells on blue-green).
June – Rose (purple/pink rose bloom).
July – Water lily / Lotus (blue-purple lotus on teal).
August – Poppy (red/orange poppies with green).
• Third row (partial, continuing):
Features additional pendants including pink/reddish flowers on green/blue bases.
• Bottom row:
More variations, such as blue backgrounds with small flowers, pink cosmos-like blooms, green foliage-heavy designs, and pink/green floral clusters.
The overall style is dainty, bohemian, and nature-inspired, with textured ceramic surfaces showing subtle glazing variations and handcrafted charm. Text overlay at the bottom reads: “HANDMADE PERSONALIZED CERAMIC BIRTH FLOWER NECKLACES” followed by “THE MIDNIGHT MUSTARD SEED” and “X WHITNEY WINKLER” (with a heart icon and other UI elements like a like button visible). The background is neutral/light beige, emphasizing the colorful pendants. This image promotes customizable jewelry tied to birth months, highlighting the unique floral motifs for each.

This collection makes excellent gifts for moms, friends, or yourself- filled with endless options for a pretty personalized piece that feels purposeful, full of thought, and a little bit fancy. The pendants are small and practical —perfect for everyday layering or as a quiet reminder close to your heart. Paired with the chain of your choice-simple chain or a paper clip chain-it’s a wearable story of your family or yourself.

The three irregularly shaped, rounded ceramic pendants (teal/blue-green base glazes with subtle variations and textured, hand-painted details) hang at different lengths for a layered, asymmetrical look:
• Left pendant: Round disc showing pink flowers (likely cosmos or similar) with yellow centers and green stems/leaves against a light blue sky-like background.
• Center pendant (longest drop, teardrop/oval shape): Features delicate white lily-of-the-valley bells hanging from green stems and leaves, painted in soft greens on a turquoise/teal glazed background.
• Right pendant: Another rounded disc depicting small blue/purple flowers (possibly forget-me-nots or irises) with green foliage on a similar teal/blue background.
The pendants have an artisanal, vintage-inspired aesthetic with watercolor-like glazing, subtle crackle or patina effects, and hand-carved/painted floral motifs that evoke personalized birth month symbolism (potentially representing months like January snowdrop/forget-me-not variant, May lily of the valley, and another spring/summer bloom). Displayed flat against a plain off-white/cream background, emphasizing the dainty, bohemian, nature-inspired jewelry style and colorful, nature-evoking details.
